Man arrested after attack on Burnaby golf course

A golf ball is visible on a golf course.

The Burnaby RCMP says it is investigating after three people were attacked at a golf course.

Police say they were called out to a North Burnaby golf course around noon Oct. 12 after reports of someone attacking people.

“When police arrived, the intoxicated 43-year-old male suspect was still on scene and immediately taken into custody with no incident,” Corp. Mike Kalanj told 1130 NewsRadio.

“It was reported that the suspect allegedly hit three male victims with a golf club following a brief verbal altercation.”

Kalanj says all three victims had minor injuries.

Video footage of the incident, being shared widely on social media, captures a man striking another golfer with a club during an argument.

The altercation was prompted by an “errant golf ball,” officers say.

Police say the suspect now has a court date and faces a potential charge of assault with a weapon.

This marks the second violent incident involving police at a Burnaby golf course in the last five months.

On June 29, Mounties were called to a different golf course — this one near Burnaby Way and Byrne Road — after reports of a fight between two groups of people. In this incident, police say one group of golfers allegedly attempted to hit the other group with their ball several times. A woman was reportedly pushed to the ground.

The investigation into the latest event is ongoing.
