Celebrate Indigenous night with the Toronto Maple Leafs

Scotiabank Arena will be a busy place this weekend as Toronto Maple Leafs will be hosting their Indigenous Celebration Night on Saturday.

Keep in mind if you are heading into the city, there will be service adjustment on the Lakeshore West GO train line this weekend.

Toronto Maple Leafs Indigenous celebration game

The Toronto Maple Leafs will be holding their annual Indigenous Celebration Night this Saturday when they take on the Vancouver Canucks.

Indigenous Celebration Night will include a first-intermission performance by an Indigenous hoop dancer, a welcome message from Chief Claire Sault (Chief of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation) and Indigenous-inspired food options, among other activations.

The puck drops at 7 p.m.

Jerry Seinfeld and Jim Gaffigan at Scotiabank Arena

Comedians Jerry Seinfeld and Jim Gaffigan will be taking the stage at Scotiabank Arena on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The comedy legends will be bringing their 10-show arena tour to Toronto for one night only.

Tickets are still available for sale but very few are left to purchase.

Canada’s Bridal Show

Canada’s biggest bridal show will taking over Toronto this weekend. There will be access to the latest wedding products and services, along with a bridal fashion show that showcases all the latest gowns and suits while highlighting future trends.

The show begins on Friday at 5 p.m. and runs through the weekend until 6 p.m. on Sunday at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre North Building.

Toronto Franchise Expo

If you were thinking of opening up your own franchise, then the Toronto Franchise Expo is the place for you. It will get you face-to-face with franchises and businesses looking to grow. There will also be free educational seminars.

It kicks off on Saturday at 11 a.m. and runs on Sunday until 5 p.m. at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Tickets are still available online.

TTC/GO closures

Lakeshore West service adjustment

On Saturday, Jan. 11, and Sunday, Jan. 12, Lakeshore West trains will run on an adjusted schedule due to track repair just west of Exhibition GO.

Some departure times will be adjusted.

Road closures

Gardiner Expressway closure

As part of the long-term construction plan on the Gardiner Expressway, one westbound lane and one eastbound lane are closed between Dufferin Street and Strachan Avenue. The eastbound on-ramp from Lake Shore Boulevard at Jameson Avenue is also closed.

Temporary closures

  • Spadina Avenue streetcars have been replaced by buses between Spadina Station and Queens Quay, and until the end of the year, there will be no 510 service between Spadina Station and Union Station. Commuters wishing to travel onwards to Union from Queens Quay will need to transfer to a 509 streetcar.
  • The Yonge and Bloor intersection will be reduced to a single lane until 2025 for condo construction and sewer installation.
  • University Avenue will be reduced to a single lane in both directions between College Street and Queen Street West to complete several infrastructure projects for the next several months.
  • Queen Street is fully closed to traffic between Bay and Victoria Streets to accommodate work on a new station for the Ontario Line subway. The closure is scheduled to last until 2027, at least four-and-a-half years.
  • Eglinton Avenue West is reduced to a single lane east of Islington and west of Scarlett Road due to tunnelling work related to the multi-year Eglinton Crosstown West Extension project.
  • Lane restrictions on Bayview Avenue between Roehampton Avenue and Armistice Drive while the city completes road resurfacing, curb and sidewalk replacement, and traffic signal and pedestrian upgrades. One northbound lane is currently closed on Bayview Avenue between Kilgour Road and Roehampton Avenue.
  • Cherry Street remains closed south of Polson Pier due to maintenance on the Ship Channel Lift Bridge (Strauss Trunnion Bascule Bridge). Road users are able to access the Port of Toronto and Cherry Beach via Unwin Avenue.
