Christmas in Vancouver: What’s open today?
It can be difficult to know how to spend Christmas Day and the first night of Hanukkah in the Metro Vancouver area when many businesses and public spaces are closed for the holidays. Fortunately, 1130 NewsRadio has assembled a short list of what’s open and what’s closed on Dec. 25.
Groceries:
Save-On-Foods, Safeway, and Whole Foods are all closed. But some 7/Eleven locations, and independent convenience stores are open.
Malls:
The Pacific Centre in downtown Vancouver, Burnaby’s Amazing Brentwood, and Metrotown, and Surrey’s Guildford Town Centre are closed.
Liquor:
Most BCLiquor stores closed too, but your favourite private liquor store may be open.
Entertainment:
Most movie theatres are open. New in theatres is “A Complete Unknown,” the new Bob Dylan biopic, starring Timothee Chalamet in the title role.
Also new today are Babygirl, The Fire Inside, and Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu.
Other things to do include the Vancouver Lookout, which is open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; the Vancouver Aquarium, which is open from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; and the Robson Square skating rink, which is open from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Parks:
If your plans included a visit to Stanley Park, you’re in luck again. Stanley Park was closed Wednesday due to weather. In an update Wednesday afternoon, the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation says it will reopen at 3 p.m., following a safety assessment by staff.
So far, the board says, winds didn’t do damage to trees or park infrastructure as initially feared.
Sections of the seawall between Third Beach and Prospect Point will remain closed as a precaution due to the ongoing storm.
