Mounties in Hope are investigating after a collision between two drivers claimed one life Wednesday night.

BC Emergency Health Services says it responded to reports of a two passenger vehicle crash around 9:15 p.m. near the Great Bear Snowshed on the Coquihalla Highway.

BCEHS says one air ambulance and two ground crews were dispatched to the scene. Paramedics did not transport any patients to the hospital.

In an update Friday, the Hope RCMP confirmed that one person died in the crash.

“Sadly, one of the drivers, a 69-year-old man from Hope, B.C., succumbed to injuries he sustained and was pronounced deceased at the scene,” said Staff Sgt. Mike Sargent.

A section of the northbound lanes of Highway 5 between Hope and Merritt was closed for hours Wednesday.

Mounties say the crash remains under investigation.

“Police are asking anyone with information about this incident to contact them at (604) 869-7750.”
