Search and rescue crews are responding to the scene of a crash that sent a vehicle down an embankment off the shoulder of Highway 1 north of Boston Bar Wednesday.

Barry Gannon, the search manager for Hope Volunteer Search and Rescue, says reports of the crash first came in around 12:30 p.m. He says at least one occupant of the vehicle is conscious and responsive, though “trapped.” He could not confirm how many people were involved.

Gannon says the operation could take hours while four “rope team” members attempt a rescue.

The RCMP has confirmed to 1130 NewsRadio that it is also attending the scene.

Meanwhile, Gannon says rescue crews are also responding to the nearby Yak Peak along the Coquihalla.

He says a party of four hikers called for help when one of them — a 50-year-old man — injured his shoulder.

“The weather is getting bad out here. So hopefully we can do all the rescues and get them home safe,” said Gannon.
