Rain for the end of 2024 into the New Year

If you were hoping for some crisp blue skies as we ring in the New Year, think again.

It’s going to be a very wet end to 2024 for much of B.C.’s South Coast, including Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley, with rain set to continue all the way through into the New Year.

“We’ve got chances of rain each and every day all the way until 2024 ends,” meteorologist Carl Lam explained. “We’re also taking a sneak peek into the first couple of days of 2025, and those look very wet at this point.”

Lam says much of the region is going to be dealing with steady rain to start off the new year, but it won’t come with a big freeze.

“It does not look like we’re going to be dealing with much cold air headed into Metro Vancouver. It looks like we’re staying relatively consistent with where we should be for this time of year, which generally is around six degrees,” he stated.

If you’re still catching up with friends and family to celebrate the holidays Friday or over the weekend, you should definitely prepare for steady rain, Lam says.

“Just know that the rain will be with us as we go into the evening hours,” he said.

“Saturday is the wetter of the two weekend days, and then for Sunday, we could een have some sun early, and then some dry conditions extending into the late morning, possibly the early afternoon before more rain returns Sunday evening.”
