Resident displaced after fire in Chilliwack home Friday
The Chilliwack Fire Department says one person has been displaced after a fire at a two-storey home Friday evening.
Assistant Fire Chief Krista Minar says crews were called out to the home on Tyson Road near Keith Wilson Road around 8 p.m.
“Due to the swift actions of bystanders who immediately alerted the fire department, crews from Halls 1, 3, 4, and 6 were able to quickly and effectively combat the flames, minimizing the damage to the structure,” Minar said in a news release.
“Despite these efforts, the home remains uninhabitable.”
She says the house was unoccupied at the time.
Minar says this incident is a reminder for everyone to take appropriate steps to prevent similar incidents in the future.
“One of the things that we really want to encourage everyone in their homes to do is make sure they have working smoke alarms,” she told 1130 NewsRadio.
“It was noted that there were no active smoke alarms sounding at the time of the fire.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
