Police say a man has been arrested following his “concerning behaviour” in a school building in Victoria.

In a release Monday, the Victoria Police Department says an unknown 40-year-old man entered Central Middle School around 12:30 p.m.

Police say the school staff set off emergency procedures, putting the school on lockdown following the man’s entrance.

They say officers were able to locate the suspect shortly after they were on the scene, adding they believe he was in a “drug-induced state” in the school library.

Officers say the man resisted the arrest which caused them to use a taser.

“The male was then taken into custody and medically assessed by BC Emergency Health Services in VicPD cells, where he is currently being held,” VicPD said.

Police say the man was not armed and no one was injured.

“There are no continuing concerns for the safety of students or staff at Central Middle School or the nearby community.”
