A mother from Etobicoke was charged with impaired driving after police observed her driving on a closed highway while en route to pick up her children.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged the 31-year-old woman on Thursday.

Police observed the woman allegedly driving on a highway shut down due to a serious collision investigation on Hwy. 400 and Finch Avenue.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said the woman failed a roadside sobriety test.

“The driver of this car went through the [highway] closure,” Schmidt said. “Officers were able to get her stopped before she came into contact with investigators who were at the scene.”
