Woman in her 60s found dead at Port Moody marina
Police in Port Moody say a woman was found dead at a marina off Barnet Highway on New Year’s Day.
Acting Sgt. Sam Zacharias tells 1130 NewsRadio that the woman, who is believed to have been in her 60s, was spotted in the water by a passerby around 9 a.m.
“She was retrieved from the water with the help from the Coast Guard,” he explained.
“At this time, we’re in the preliminary stages of the investigation. Our major crime detectives are collecting evidence, and they’re in the evidence-gathering phase of the investigation, and they’re examining the circumstances surrounding her death.”
Zacharias adds police have not ruled out criminality. However, investigators do believe the death to be “isolated.”
Police are now working with the BC Coroners’ Service to determine the cause of death, but there’s no indication she may have died by suicide.
“There’s no risk or further risk to the public and anyone with information, any potential witnesses, they are certainly asked to contact us,” Zacharias said.
