$1.1M stolen in card scams since start of 2025: Vancouver police

The Vancouver Police Department is out with a warning Thursday after a sharp rise in bank card scams this year.

Police say since the start of 2025, over $1.1 million was lost to this scam, up from $20,000 during the same time last year.

The VPD says fraudsters pose as bank employees and use spoofed numbers to trick victims into thinking their cards were compromised.

Victims are then told to either cut up their cards, but leave the chip card intact, provide their address, and hand their card to a courier sent to them.

Police say banks will never ask for your PIN or send someone to collect your card.
