1 dead after HWY 1 crash near Chilliwack: police
Mounties say a major crash that blocked Highway 1 eastbound through Chilliwack for hours Sunday was fatal.
The BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) says the crash happened shortly before 1 p.m. between Young and Prest roads.
A 74-year-old Agassiz woman crashed while driving her grey Ford Focus, and rolled into a ditch.
Police say she died at the scene. She was the sole occupant of the vehicle and no other injuries were reported.
The highway remained closed for several hours as investigators worked. DriveBC announced it had reopened around 9 p.m.
The BCHP says there are “no indications of overt criminality,” but police are still hoping to speak to witnesses.
