13 temperature records for Jan. 13 set across B.C.

Unusually warm temperatures felt around the province Tuesday have been confirmed in the record books.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, 13 areas across B.C. reported record-high temperatures for Jan. 14.

In Vancouver, a high of 13.8 degrees broke a 12-year record of 12.1 degrees. Richmond, too, had not seen such a hot Jan. 14 since 2014.

The oldest records broken on Tuesday were reported in Terrace and Dawson Creek, which both blew past the 6.7-degree heat felt in 1933, to 9.6 and 7.9 degrees, respectively.

Tuesday’s complete list of record-setting temperatures in degrees Celcius is as follows:

BELLA BELLA AREA

BURNS LAKE AREA

  • New record of 8.5

DAWSON CREEK AREA

  • New record of 7.9
  • Old record of 6.7 set in 1933
  • Records in this area have been kept since 1926

DEASE LAKE AREA

  • New record of 6.8
  • Old record of 6.4 set in 1986
  • Records in this area have been kept since 1944

GIBSONS AREA

  • New record of 13.7
  • Old record of 12.6 set in 2023
  • Records in this area have been kept since 1949

KITIMAT AREA

  • New record of 9.3
  • Old record of 7.0 set in 1994
  • Records in this area have been kept since 1951

POWELL RIVER AREA

  • Tied record of 12.0 set in 1986
  • Records in this area have been kept since 1924

RICHMOND AREA

SANDSPIT AREA
