2 drivers charged after pedestrian struck twice

Charges have been approved against two drivers after an investigation into a multiple hit-and-run collision in Coquitlam that sent one pedestrian to hospital in January last year.

The Coquitlam RCMP says a patrol officer saw a vehicle with its hazards flashing stopped in the area of Pinetree Way and Guildford Way at 9:45 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024.

The RCMP says a good Samaritan had stopped to help the pedestrian, who was unconscious. It was determined the woman had been walking through a marked crosswalk in the area when she was hit by a car that was turning east onto Guildford.

Investigators say “within a short time,” a second vehicle heading east then hit the woman, who was on the ground. Neither vehicle stayed at the scene.

At the time of the incident, police described both suspect vehicles as SUVs.

In an update Thursday, Mounties say two people have been charged after a lengthy investigation. Police did not disclose the nature of the charges, nor if the suspects were in custody.

“The pedestrian victim continues to recover from this serious and senseless incident,” said RCMP.
