2 teens arrested after South Surrey shooting

The Surrey RCMP says two 16-year-old boys have been arrested and since released without charges in relation to a shooting in South Surrey at the beginning of the month.

The incident happened on Feb. 1 just before 1:30 a.m. after Mounties received reports of shots fired at a home on 154 Street near 28 Avenue.

When officers got to the home, they found “evidence consistent with a shooting.”

Pictures from the incident showed what appeared to be bullet holes in the home and on a white Tesla parked in the driveway.

The day after, the B.C. Gurdwara Council claimed that the target was Simranjeet Singh — an associate of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a high-profile pro-Khalistan activist who was shot and killed in broad daylight outside the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey in 2023.

In an update Thursday, Surrey Mounties say they continue to gather information and investigate the incident, however during a search warrant on Feb. 6, they recovered three firearms, “and multiple electronic devices during the search.”

“Two 16-year-old males from Surrey were arrested for careless use of a firearm and discharge a firearm with intent. The youths were released without charges at this time,” the Surrey RCMP said.

Mounties say they take threats of violence seriously and are working with the victims to ensure their safety.

The shooting left people on edge, Moninder Singh from the Gurdwaras Council said at the time.

“There were approximately five or six individuals [at home]. His wife, his kids and possibly his parents. Where the shooting happened, it went through the front of the house, it narrowly missed him sitting in the front living room and the shooting also extended to a bedroom upstairs where his six-year-old son was sleeping, and it went through his headboard and missed his head by about a foot.”
