2 women critically injured after being struck by driver

Two women have been critically injured after being struck by a driver in Yorkville.

Police say they were called to the Avenue Road and Transby Avenue area just before 1:30 p.m. Saturday for reports two people had been struck.

According to authorities, a grey Jeep was stopped in front of a private driveway while the two women were attempting to retrieve a dog.

Police say the Jeep moved forward and hit the two pedestrians.

Paramedics say they transported a 51-year-old woman to Sunnybrook Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and an 81-year-old woman with life-threatening injuries.

The status of the dog was not immediately known.
