Six people have been taken to hospital, including one woman in critical condition, after a car ended up in the chilly waters of Ashbridges Bay.

Police and Toronto Fire crews were called to the east-end park located near Lake Shore Boulevard and Woodbine Avenue around 9:30 p.m. Sunday following reports at least two people were trapped in the vehicle.

Paramedics later confirmed to The Leader Spirit that six people in total had been taken to hospital and that one of them was in critical condition. The remaining five people were said to have serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Police later said four of those taken to hospital were officers who were being treated for exposure to the elements.
