The Surrey RCMP says the Lower Mainland’s homicide team has been called in after a man was killed on Sunday night.

According to Mounties, just before 10 p.m., officers responded to reports of a “physical altercation between two large groups of men.”

Police say the incident happened outside of a business near 102 Avenue and City Parkway in the Whalley neighbourhood.

“The parties had fled the area prior to officers arriving on scene,” Sgt. Tammy Lobb said on Monday.

Shortly after, officers were called to a report of an “injured man” near 67b Avenue and 146 Street in South Newton.

“Despite life-saving efforts by BC Emergency Health Services and Surrey Fire Service, the man succumbed to his injuries,” Sgt. Tammy Lobb said on Monday.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is now working with the RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit, and they’re asking for any witnesses or people who may have dash camera footage of the incident to contact police at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448).
