Police are investigating after a 51-year-old man was fatally struck by a vehicle in Clarington over the weekend.

Just before 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, officers with Durham Regional Police Service were called to Regional Highway 2 east of Stapleton Road after receiving a report of a deceased man in a ditch.

“Officers arrived on scene and located the male in the south ditch. Based on the injuries, investigators were able to determine that the deceased male had been struck at some point by an eastbound motor vehicle,” police said in a release.

Police say the male was walking on the side of the roadway during a snowfall that occurred after 6 p.m. on Saturday when he was struck.

Investigators are seeking any dashcam video related to the incident, particularly along Highway 2 between Morgans Road and Reids Road between Saturday and Sunday.

Update: An earlier version of the story stated the man was 31 years old, according to a police release. Police now say he was 51 years old.
