Police say a garbage truck hit TTC streetcar wires at King Street West and Spadina Avenue on Dec. 17, 2024

The intersection of King Street West and Spadina Avenue is closed in downtown Toronto after a garbage truck hit some overhead streetcar wires.

The incident happened just before 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday.

Police say the live wires are down and damaged, but no injuries have been reported.

A TTC spokesperson says the dump truck appeared to have its bucket up when it took out the overhead wires through the intersection, and it may take some time to repair the damage.

As a result, there is no streetcar service on Spadina at Front Street West and Spadina at Queen Street West.

Streetcars on the King and Queen routes are also detouring in the area.

It’s unclear when the intersection will reopen.
