Police in both Abbotsford and Mission are reaching out to the public for help in their investigation of a series of Canada Post community mailbox thefts that took place early Saturday morning.

The Abbotsford Police Department says multiple mailboxes in the Mckee neighbourhood were targeted around 2 a.m., with numerous units being dumped in the northern part of the city.

AbbyPD has a description of a vehicle that may have been involved.

“A white or light-coloured Ford truck was seen pulling mailboxes off their foundations, loading them into the bed of the truck, and fleeing the area,” the department said on social media.

In Mission early Saturday, the RCMP was notified of two Canada Post community mailboxes that were dumped on Draper Street near Cemetery Avenue. Canada Post told the RCMP that the boxes were originally taken from Abbotsford’s Riverside Street area.

Mounties then located a third stolen mailbox along Tyler Street. This was stolen from Machell Street in west Mission.

“All of the boxes had been pried open and the mail from within had been stolen,” the Mission RCMP said.

Police are asking residents in the areas of these mailboxes to check their dashcam and CCTV footage for any suspicious vehicles or activity between Friday and Saturday. Anyone who sees a community mailbox that has been tampered with is asked to call the Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161 and quote file number 24-395.

Anyone who believes they are missing mail is asked to call Canada Post at 1-866-607-6301.
