800 lose power after car hits pole in East Vancouver
An early morning crash into a pole in Vancouver’s Hastings-Sunrise area sent two people to hospital with minor injuries and knocked out power to 800 customers in the area.
According to the Vancouver Police Department, a driver in a Lexus allegedly hit a car parked in a no-stopping zone near East 1st Avenue and Lillooet Street around 6:30 a.m.
“As the driver of a Lexus was driving east along 1st Avenue, he attempted to swerve around the Toyota but clipped the rear driver side, causing him to lose control of his vehicle,” said VPD Const. Tania Visintin.
The Lexus then crashed into a telephone pole.
“The driver of the Toyota was issued a violation ticket for parking in a no-stopping zone,” Visintin said.
“Vancouver Fire and BC Hydro attended the scene to [deal with] the fallen telephone wires.”
BC Hydro says power has been off since the time of the accident, but is expected to be restored around 4:30 p.m.
Both the driver and a passenger had minor injuries, Visintin says.
