A man has been arrested and charged after he was caught allegedly running from Surrey police with stolen property.

In the early morning of Jan. 24, the Surrey Police Service (SPS) responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle in the area of 139 Street and 101 Avenue.

Officers say the driver attempted to flee the scene as police approached the vehicle.

In a statement, the SPS say the driver was arrested at the scene after several officers positioned their vehicles to prevent the driver’s escape.

Police say a 29-year-old man is now facing numerous charges, including one count of flight from a peace officer, one count of failing to comply with a court order, and possession of stolen property over $5,000.

“The vehicle is believed to be stolen,” police explained.

The man reportedly remains in police custody and was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday morning.
