Man critically injured in 2-alarm west-end blaze

A man is in critical condition following a 2-alarm house fire in the Wychwood neighbourhood.

Fire crews were called to a home on Oakwood Avenue south of St. Clair Avenue West just after 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

Crews say they were met with heavy smoke and flames from the blaze. They say one person was pulled from the building and several others were assessed for unknown injuries.

Paramedics tell The Leader Spirit one man was taken to a hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries while a woman was transported with serious injuries.

Officials say the fire is under control but crews remain to monitor for any hotspots.
