A man from Barrie is facing a first-degree murder charge in the fatal shooting of another man in Vaughan last summer.

York Regional Police officers were called to a home in the Islington and Kiloran Avenues area on Aug. 9, 2024, around 2 p.m. for reports of shots fired.

When officers arrived, a man was located in his driveway suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim, 57-year-old Jorge-Ivan Navas of Vaughan, was transported to a trauma centre, where he was pronounced dead.

Homicide detectives determined that two suspects arrived in a stolen black F-150 that has since been recovered.

Police said 33-year-old Bradley Johnston of Barrie was arrested on Jan. 29, 2025. He’s been charged with first-degree murder.

Authorities believe that at least one additional suspect remains wanted and that the shooting was targeted.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to come forward.
