Surrey driver dies after hitting power pole

The Surrey Police Service says a driver has died after leaving the road and hitting a power pole in the city’s Guildford neighbourhood.

According to the SPS, the crash happened around 10:50 p.m. Monday night, when the driver of the vehicle was travelling westbound along 104 Avenue near 149 Street.

“SPS Frontline officers attended and despite life-saving medical intervention by Surrey Fire Service and BCEHS, the driver, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle, died on scene,” Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton shared in a statement on Tuesday.

The Surrey Police Service, the RCMP Surrey Police Operations Support Unit’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team (SPOSU CCIT), and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) are investigating.

However, through their early investigation, police say that “the speed of the vehicle is thought to be the primary contributing factor.”

The SPS is now urging anyone with information about the crash, or those who may have dashcam footage of the incident, to call police at 604-599-0502.
