The New Westminster Police Department is asking for help to identify a suspect who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman on Sunday.

According to police, the victim called police at 1:20 a.m. after she was allegedly assaulted in his car when he offered her a ride along 6th Street near 5th Avenue.

Police describe the man as being between 30 and 40 years old, and at the time of the offence was wearing a baseball cap, a white long-sleeve shirt, and a dark vest.

The suspect was driving a white “newer model four-door vehicle,” police say.

“Our team is actively reviewing CCTV footage and speaking with witnesses,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “If you were in the area around this time or have any relevant information, please contact us.”

Police are now urging anyone with dashcam footage of the area between 1 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. to come forward to police.

“Additionally, police are asking anyone who recognizes this man, or has information about the assault, to call the New Westminster Police Department Specialized Investigations Unit at 604-525-5411.”

The victim is currently being supported by the police department’s Victim Assistance Unit, the NWPD adds.
