Three local neighbourhood news publications to close

In another sign of the struggle facing the local news industry, three Lower Mainland publications have announced they are set to close.
The Burnaby Now, New Westminster Record, and Tri-City News — all publications of Glacier Media — will shut down within the next three months.
A post on the outlets’ websites says the decision was made due to “challenging economic conditions.”
“Our parent company, Glacier Media, explored all possible options to maintain operations,” the post reads.
“Unfortunately, the industry’s ongoing financial challenges have made it unsustainable to continue on.”
The three publications had print versions that for decades were delivered door-to-door to homes in their respective cities. In 2023, Glacier announced they were moving to online-only, with the final print issues issued Aug. 10, 2023.
The Burnaby Now and New Westminster Record will close no later than April 21. The Tri-City News will wrap up by May 21.
