The Lower Mainland’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has identified the victim of a fatal shooting in Surrey Thursday night as 21-year-old Bilal Hameed.

IHIT says Hameed was the driver of a vehicle at the time of the shooting and has had previous interactions with police.

The Surrey Police Service says officers responded to reports of a shooting along 129 Street near 108 Avenue around 7:40 p.m.

“SPS officers attended the area and located a male suffering from life-threatening injuries. Despite life-saving measures, one man succumbed to his injuries at the scene,” Sgt. Tige Pollock explained.

According to IHIT, a black Dodge pickup truck was involved in the shooting. When the vehicle was found on 184th Street near 94th Avenue, it was burnt.

The killing is Surrey’s fourth homicide of 2025, police say.

“While the motive is still under investigation, the incident does not appear to be random in nature,” Pollock said.

IHIT says evidence indicates there is no ongoing risk to the public.

Police are urging anyone with information about the incident, or those who may have dashcam footage of the area, to call the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448).
