Environment Canada has released heat warnings for several areas in southern B.C. and on Vancouver Island.

The warnings apply to Howe Sound, Whistler, Pemberton, East Vancouver Island, and Inland Vancouver Island, for Sunday and Monday.

“Maximum temperatures are expected to reach or possibly exceed 30 C [Sunday] and Monday, with overnight lows expected to remain above 16 C,” the weather agency said.

The heat is expected to continue through Tuesday, with cooling in the forecast for Wednesday.

Those in affected areas should watch out for signs of heat stroke, which include a high body temperature, confusion, dizziness or fainting, and very hot or red skin. Heat stroke is considered a medical emergency, so if anyone in your care displays these symptoms, call 911 immediately, move them to a cool place, and apply cold water to large areas of their skin or clothing.

Seniors and people with diabetes, heart or respiratory disease are particularly vulnerable.

As well, the agency reminds people not to leave children or pets inside parked vehicles.

The Lower Mainland is not under any heat warnings.
