Large fire breaks out at construction site in Langley overnight; nearby residents evacuated
A large fire broke out overnight at a construction site at 201st Street and Fraser Highway in Langley, the RCMP says.
Mounties say they responded to the fire shortly after 4 a.m.
“Out of an abundance of caution, several neighbouring residential buildings were evacuated,” said Sgt. Zynal Sharoom.
The owners of Emilio Finatti Pizzeria say the fire was in the building next to theirs.
“Early this morning, our Langley location encountered an unexpected challenge with a fire in the adjacent building,” the business said on social media.
“We are incredibly grateful for the quick response and support from the Langley City Fire Department during this situation.”
The restaurant says it will be closed until further notice.

Local resident Kellie Kemps — who was not in one of the evacuated buildings — says she first became aware of the blaze around 5 a.m.
“I woke up because I smelled burning plastic, and then my power went out,” Kemps told 1130 NewsRadio.
“I looked out of my window and could see instantly it was a massive fire.”
Sharoom says no injuries have been reported.
“Road closures are currently in effect in the area, and the public is asked to avoid the scene until further notice,” he said.
