Interprovincial travel increased as Canadians vacation domestically
More Canadians have been exploring their own backyard this year instead of travelling south of the border.
A survey conducted by commerce provider Moneris found that about a quarter of Canadians cancelled plans to travel to the U.S. this year.
30 percent of those people decided to travel to another Canadian province instead.
Additionally, Moneris says that between January and June, Canadians have spent more money in a province they do not live in.
Moneris looked at interprovincial transaction data and found that the volume of transactions was up five per cent compared to last year’s data.
B.C., for example, saw a three per cent increase in money spent by Canadians from other provinces.
