Man charged after assault in West 41st Avenue and Ash Street
The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says charges have been laid against a man who assaulted a woman inside an apartment building near West 41st Avenue and Ash Street on Thursday.
The assault occurred around 9 a.m. in the hallway of the building.
Neighbours who had heard the altercation called 911 and held the man until officers arrived.
“Police arrived on scene, and neighbours were already in the process of intervening in an assault that was taking place,” VPD Const. Darren Wong told 1130 NewsRadio.
He says police are not sure what prompted the incident.
“It does not appear that these two parties knew each other at all,” Wong said.
“We do know that they are both residents of the same building. However, from interviewing people there, it doesn’t seem like there was any incident or thing that or stimulus that provoked this assault.”
Wong says the victim, a woman in her 60s, suffered injuries that were “serious enough for her to take a trip to the hospital” for treatment.
The suspect, a 34-year-old man, now faces one count of assault causing bodily harm.
