A man has been found guilty of four charges relating to a 2019 hit-and-run in Burnaby, that left two police officers with “life-altering” injuries.

Burnaby Mounties say 34-year-old Jason Kirupakaran has been found guilty of two counts each of criminal negligence causing bodily harm and failure to stop.

On Mar. 4, 2019, an RCMP officer and an Abbotsford Police officer on duty, both of whom worked with the Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Service, were seriously injured in South Burnaby after being hit by a vehicle. The vehicle that hit them was reported stolen by New Westminster police and found later that day.

“While this does not take away the pain and suffering these injured officers continue to experience, we hope this development will provide some measure of comfort as they continue to focus on their ongoing recovery and healing,” said Burnaby RCMP’s Officer in Charge, Chief Supt. Graham de la Gorgendiere. “I’d also like to acknowledge all of the teams and police officers who worked tirelessly throughout this lengthy and comprehensive investigation.”
