Vancouver Canucks wear blue chrome helmets
The Vancouver Canucks will sport a slightly different — and shinier — look when they take the ice against the St. Louis Blues.
The team announced that Wednesday night’s game will mark the debut of their metallic helmets. They will be worn at one other game afterwards before being sold at auction to benefit the Canucks for Kids Fund.
The fund “dedicates resources to assist charities which support children’s health and wellness, foster the development of grassroots hockey, and facilitate and encourage education in British Columbia.”
The Canucks first unveiled the metallic helmets the day before, with players donning them at practice Tuesday and at morning skate Wednesday.
The new gear appeared to be met with mixed reviews — from both fans and players alike.
According to The Province’s Patrick Johnson, forward Nils Hoglander expressed his excitement, stating “I love them!”
Meanwhile, his teammates Brock Boeser and J.T. Miller were a tad more reserved with their opinions. Boeser said, “They’re alright,” while Miller contributed, “They’re shiny.” He then followed up the obvious with, “We just wear what we’re told to wear. It’s a new thing. I’m sure the fans will love it.”
Vancouver is the third team to try out the chrome look, following in the steps of the the Los Angeles Kings with their silver helmets and the Vegas Golden Knights’ gold.
