Karin Kirkpatrick says she made the decision to retire from provincial politics after serving as an MLA for West Vancouver and Capilano for four years.

A single-term MLA representing the North Shore has announced she will not be running in the 2024 provincial election.

Karin Kirkpatrick says she made the decision to retire from provincial politics after serving as an MLA for West Vancouver and Capilano for four years.

She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021.

“Although I am optimistic my health concerns are behind me, I have made the decision to put my health and family first,” Kirkpatrick said.

Kirkpatrick is her party’s housing critic, and has also served as shadow minister for childcare, autism, and accessibility, and gender equity.

She is the second North Shore MLA to bow out before the election. Three-term BC United MLA Jordan Sturdy, who represents West Vancouver – Sea-to-Sky, has also announced he is not seeking re-election.

In response to her announcement, BC United Leader Kevin Falcon says he agrees this is the right thing for her and her family.
