BC Conservatives vow to expand childcare; Greens talk forestry

The BC Conservatives are promising to expand $10 a day childcare if elected.

Leader John Rustad says his party would also increase the number of childcare spaces in the province and expand the BC Family Benefit and Affordable Childcare Benefit.

“All families deserve access to childcare that helps their children thrive while allowing parents to return to work when they choose,” Rustad said. “Young families are the future of our province, but with the affordability crisis worsening, many are being forced to build their future elsewhere.”

Elsewhere on the campaign trail, the BC Greens have unveiled their plan for the forestry sector.

Greens leader Sonia Furstenau says the party would end all old growth logging.

“At this point, it’s no secret that the BC NDP has failed to protect our forests,” Furstenau said.

“Despite their many promises, old-growth logging continues, and communities across the province — both Indigenous and non-Indigenous — are losing mills, jobs, and their connection to the land.”

She adds that her party would dedicate 20 per cent of the allowable annual cut to community-led forestry projects.
