The Abbotsford Canucks have another shot at their first-ever American Hockey League (AHL) Calder Cup championship Monday night.

They face the Charlotte Checkers on June 23 in Game 6, leading the series three games to two.

After a hard-fought overtime loss to the Checkers on home-ice on Saturday, the Canucks are eager to close out the series.

The team has been on an incredible run in these playoffs and is gaining the attention of teams, both at the AHL and NHL levels, across North America.

The Vancouver Canucks farm team was moved to Abbotsford in 2021 after shifting away from Utica, N.Y., and has never won a Calder Cup.

The 2015 squad, led by former Canucks head coach Travis Green, lost in the final that year.

The AHL is the NHL’s main developmental league, with the Abbotsford Canucks being one of six teams across Canada.

The whole league comprises of 32 teams with 26 teams in the United States, making the Charlotte Checkers one of them.

Last season’s winner was the Hershey Bears, the primary development club for the NHL’s Washington Capitals.
