Abbotsford police make arrest after man stabbed at bus stop earlier this week
The Abbotsford Police Department says it has arrested a suspect in connection with a stabbing Tuesday evening.
Police say 46-year-old Robert Matthews — who is well known to law enforcement and has a significant criminal record — was arrested on Thursday.
He is being charged with aggravated assault in connection with the stabbing as well as failure to comply with his probation order.
Sgt. Paul Walker says police had been called out just after 6 p.m. Tuesday after a reported stabbing of a 20-year-old man. The man, who had been waiting for a bus, was approached from behind by an unknown man before being stabbed. The suspect ran away on foot, and the victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police don’t believe the two knew each other.
“This was one of those random incidents where the victim and the suspect had no communication with each other,” Walker said.
“There was no history. They didn’t know each other by any degree. “
