Police in Kelowna say a man was arrested Monday after allegedly riding an electric scooter while impaired.

The Kelowna RCMP says officers spotted the man scooting down the sidewalk near the corner of Leon Avenue and Ellis Street.

“The operator was not wearing a helmet and appeared unsteady,” Mounties described.

Officers decided to stop the man when he reportedly entered a parking lot while “skidding the rear tire of the scooter.”

Police discovered the suspect had three outstanding warrants for his arrest. The suspect was searched, and police allegedly found a bottle of liquor in his waistband.

The suspect also allegedly blew over the legal limit for blood alcohol concentration in a breathalyzer test.

Police say he was issued a 90-day roadside driving prohibition and the scooter was impounded for 30 days.
