B.C.’s health officials to give update on measles, respiratory illness season

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Minister of Health Josie Osborne are set to hold a media event Friday morning, marking an end to the respiratory illness season and providing an update on the state of measles in B.C.
Health authorities have so far confirmed five cases of the highly infectious disease transmitted by airborne spread in B.C. since February.
Last week, Ontario reported a total of 350 confirmed cases of measles this year. Meanwhile, the U.S. reported a three-state outbreak that surpassed the total number of cases recorded for the previous year in just the first three months of 2025.
February brought a spike in flu activity in B.C. during the respiratory illness season. The Ministry of Health says the number of patients admitted to hospitals also soared in February, with more than 600 more than in February the previous year.
Dr. Henry and Minister Osborne are scheduled to speak at 11:30 a.m.
