B.C.’s police watchdog investigating after arrest in Coquitlam
The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) says it is investigating after an arrest in Coquitlam on Wednesday.
Members of the Lower Mainland District Integrated Response Team were called to the parking lot of Coquitlam Centre Mall just before 4 p.m., where they arrested a man on an outstanding warrant.
“The man was taken into custody with the assistance of a police service dog and sustained a serious but not life-threatening dog bite injury,” the IIO said.
“He was taken to a hospital for treatment before being released into police custody.”
The IIO is called in after any police-related incidents that result in death or serious injury, whether or not there are any allegations of wrongdoing.
Any witnesses are asked to call the IIO at 1-855-446-8477.
