While New Year’s Eve turned out to be a mostly uneventful night in Metro Vancouver, Mounties in Burnaby were kept busy after reports came in that a man was walking around with a gun.

According to the Burnaby RCMP, officers were notified of the man after he was reportedly seen in a parkade with a handgun.

“Multiple police units attended and assisted Burnaby RCMP’s frontline, including officers from Burnaby’s Gang Enforcement Team, Youth Section, Community Programs, LMD Integrated Police Dog Service, and Transit Police,” Cpl. Mike Kalanj explained on Wednesday.

“A local business was shut down for a short time, however, no weapon or suspect was located. The business was reopened as police spoke to witnesses in the area.”

According to posts on the social media site Reddit, the business was reportedly a JOEY Restaurant on Lougheed Highway near Rosser Avenue.

One Reddit user shared: “My wife and I were having dinner and had asked for the bill. Server brought the bill but said we were on lockdown and doors were locked due to an active shooter.”

Mounties say investigators have received CCTV footage from the area, and the investigation is ongoing.
