Burnaby sewer repairs to cause delays on Barnet HWY for 2 weeks

Emergency sewer repairs are causing major disruptions on westbound roads into north Burnaby Wednesday morning.
The Metro Vancouver Regional District says the work on the Westridge Sewer near Lou Moro Park started at 7 a.m. and is expected to continue for two weeks.
On its first day, congestion backed up well past Barnet Marine Park for hours.
The district says traffic lights at the three-point intersection of Hastings Street, Inlet Drive and Cliff Avenue will be turned off, and traffic personnel will be on site.
“Significant traffic impacts are expected in the area,” said Metro Vancouver in a release Tuesday.
Cliff Avenue has been reduced to single-lane alternating traffic near Hastings Street, and a section of the HOV lane along Inlet Drive — which merges with Hastings Street westbound — is closed.
Commuters can take Clarke Road to Gaglardi Way via Broadway. Another option, Lougheed Highway, is considerably farther south, but will be less congested for that reason.
