Police say they assisted the West Vancouver Fire Rescue Service with a vehicle fire on Monday, which caused delays in both directions on Highway 1.

Crews responded to calls at around 2:25 p.m. Once they arrived at the scene on Highway 1 between Taylor Way and Capilano Road, they extinguished a fully involved car fire.

No injuries were reported.

“There were two occupants who were out of the vehicle at the time, and there were no injuries,” said Jason Nesset, Assistant Fire Chief of Operations at the West Vancouver Fire Rescue Service.

“Crews knocked down and suppressed the fire quite quickly.”

As the burned car has now been towed and the scene cleared for traffic, the cause of the fire remains unclear.

“There was no crash,” explained Nesset.

“To this point, there is nothing suspicious about the event,” said West Vancouver Police Department (WVPD) Sgt. Chris Bigland.

1130 NewsRadio has reached out to the WVPD for further information on what caused the car to catch fire.
