Canucks unveil new Diwali-themed logo

Canucks fans celebrating Diwali this holiday season can sport their team pride with a new custom jersey.

The team commissioned the design — which features a flame, a peacock, the night sky, and phulkari patterns — from Surrey-based artist Suki Kaur.

“The phulkari is special to me, because it’s such an integral part of Punjabi fashion, but I didn’t want it to speak just to Punjabis, because Diwali is not just about Punjabi people,” Kaur said.

“You see variations in every culture.”

This is the fifth year the team has released Diwali merch, and fans say they would like to see even more in the future.

“I’m going to the Diwali game, so it’s gonna be cool to see it in person,” said Canucks fan Arjan Attwal.

While there are more affordable options with the logo, including hats, hoodies, and pucks, the jerseys are going for $750.

“It’s a nice design, I mean, for the price it’s terrible, $750 for a jersey is kind of crippling,” said fan Austin Taylor.

“A jersey of that price better come with front row seats and a dinner if you’re gonna pay that much.”

The Canucks are hosting Diwali night on Nov. 1 in Abbotsford and Nov. 5 here at Rogers Arena in Vancouver.
