The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says charges have been laid in connection with a homicide in an Abbotsford hotel Thursday.

The BC Prosecution Service says 26-year-old Abbotsford resident Sondeep Singh Gill has been charged with second-degree murder and indignity to human remains.

Police were called to a hotel on Marshall Road shortly after 11:30 a.m. after a report of a “suspicious circumstance.”

“Upon arrival, officers secured the scene and confirmed the incident was contained to a room within the hotel,” Sgt. Paul Walker of the Abbotsford Police Department said in a news release Thursday.

“Further evidence was quickly obtained, confirming the incident as a homicide.”

The victim has been identified as a 30-year-old woman who was living in Abbotsford.

“The details about the relationship between the woman and Mr. Gill are subject to the ongoing investigation,” IHIT said.

Walker says the incident was isolated with no risk to the public. It is not believed to be related to extortion.

IHIT says it will not be releasing any further information, as the matter is now before the courts.
