Police in Chilliwack say a man is dead after being struck by a vehicle that subsequently fled the scene.

On Jan. 18, the Chilliwack RCMP says it responded to a report of an unconscious man at the side of the road near Yale Road and Prest Road just before 6 p.m.

The man suffered injuries consistent with being hit by a vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, police say.

Less than 24 hours later, the suspected vehicle was located by a couple of police officers and seized as evidence.

“Chilliwack RCMP Traffic Services continues to pursue all investigative avenues in relation to this incident with ongoing support from the Lower Mainland District Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Services (ICARS) as well as the BC Coroners Service,” said Cpl. Michael Sabulsky.

Mounties say the victim’s name and description of the vehicle will not be released for the time being, due to the sensitivity of the investigation.
