City of Vancouver to upgrade roads after a teen was struck by a car
Pedestrian safety upgrades are on the way for an intersection near Lord Byng Secondary School in Vancouver after a teen was left with serious injuries after being struck by a car.
After hearing from the general public regarding Wallace street and 16th Avenue, the City of Vancouver tells The Leader Spirit that they will be adding more safety features at the intersection.
“As per our study of the intersection a flashing beacon is warranted and will be installed in 2025 along with zebra crosswalk markings,” the City said in a statement. “We are also planning to increase the pedestrian crossing time at Crown and 16th later this year.”
The City says they are continuing to work with their partners to gather more information.
“As with all collisions, staff will take any feedback we receive through the collision investigation and work with the VPD and ICBC to implement the changes to improve road safety,” said the City in a statement.
“Pedestrian and road safety remain the City’s top transportation focus,” it said. “Our goal is to have zero traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries.”
