The RCMP says first responders in Coquitlam are searching for the residents of a home that washed away in a mudslide Saturday.

Mounties say they were called out for a report of the slide on Quarry Road around 12:30 p.m.

They found a home had been washed away, and police say the homeowner has not been found.

“Quarry Road between Calgary Drive and MacIntyre Road will remain closed as search efforts continue,” said Corp. Alexa Hodgins, media relations officer.

“Due to the mudslide, Quarry Road is unpassable, which has affected several residents on the other side of the slide. First responders are in contact with the residents and confirmed that [they] are able to shelter in place, but there is no updated timeline as to when the road will be cleared.”

Coquitlam Search and Rescue and Coquitlam Fire and Rescue have taken over the search.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550 and quote file number 2024-27774.
